Partnering with African communities, we work with passionate local leaders and program managers to provide scholarships to students and infrastructure funds to schools, supporting projects such as new classrooms, toilets, water harvesting, science labs, etc.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This Part time Bookkeeper and Donor Relationship person is primarily responsible for properly maintaining the agency’s Accounts Receivable/payables systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and for providing all necessary support and documentation requested by the Finance Controller. There is a focus on donor income and donor contact management. Assumption is that is role requires 15-20 hours/month.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The ability to help organize and create processes for consistency. Having skills to work with multiple people, some are virtual and some are local.
- Process and record all Incoming Cash Receipts and reconcile Cash Receipt journals with Development Department database (Salesforce.com), ensuring that all records are consistent. Financial tool being used is Quickbooks.
- Enter, track all Accounts Receivable and work with Finance Controller on processing payments, including international wire transfers. Process paypal and network for good donations online and reconcile event income with development dept.
- Work with Fiscal Director in preparation of reports for quarter-end, year-end closing and annual audit, prepare balance sheet accounts analysis for leadership review and communications.
- Process tax donation recognition to donors (thank you notes, tax receipts, etc.) and record contributions in donor tracking database (Salesforce.com).
- Possible other fiscal duties/projects as assigned by Fiscal Director or Executive Director.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
AA, Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years work experience in non-profit sector and proficient use of PC based Quickbooks as a financial management tool is required. Non-profit sector and grant accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks; reliable and organized
- Proficient in using accounting software and MS Excel and MS Word
- Salesforce.com donor management software useage and knowledge a big plus
- Strong written and verbal skills
It is assumed that this person will come equipped with own PC, loaded with needed functionality to do this job effectively and that working remotely is acceptable as a part of the job. It is also assumed that this person would be “bonded” to the extent required to manage funds for an organization.
