I began my volunteer work with Asante Africa Foundation in March of 2014. Originally, I was drawn to the organization because of my interest in their girls’ health and empowerment programs. At first, I worked on a variety of projects, from grant writing to data management. More recently, I’ve worked with the evaluation team, for which I’ve authored a White Paper on the Integrated Teaching Program, conducted research on topics related to existing programs, and worked on developing annual donor reports. Through these experiences, I’ve learned about topics I might have never explored otherwise and have grown immensely in my knowledge and skills related to global non-profit work.
What I appreciate most about Asante Africa Foundation is the agency’s leaders’ willingness to provide truly meaningful volunteer experiences. By volunteering with the Foundation, I’ve been able to put into practice my knowledge of program evaluation and development. As a fairly recent Master of Public Health graduate, I’ve really valued the experience I’ve gained while volunteering and the significant nature of the work I’ve been assigned. I must say I also really appreciate the recognition and support given on an ongoing basis to volunteers. It has truly been a privilege to volunteer with Asante Africa!
