The Proof is in Our Numbers
518,000+ Lives Impacted Since 2007
It is our pleasure to present to you our 2018 Impact Report – Thriving Where We Stand. In 2018 we calculated a total of 518,000 lives impacted since 2007. We are halfway to our goal of impacting a million lives! At Asante Africa, we aim to educate and empower all rural youth, no matter how far off they are from the paved roads. We see the potential and our report shows the successes in numbers, photos, quotes, and stories.
As we look at another year of Asante Africa’s efforts and accomplishments, we are amazed by the achievements of our students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members. We continue to witness youth rise above what they believed was possible and make strides toward a more promising future. When we see children and young adults meet their goals despite the challenges or obstacles they face, we see them thrive. We see them with hopes and dreams and watch them turn into reality. That is why we believe that no matter what circumstances they may have, they thrive where they stand.
The proof is in our numbers. Thanks to our team, existing and new partnerships, community support, and investors, we saw our numbers grow in 2018. From 2007, we have impacted over 518,000 lives in East Africa.

Girls’ Advancement Program
101,000+ Lives Impacted Since 2011
Our Girls’ Advancement Program, Wezesha Vijana, provides fundamental training and workshops for girls’ rights with the active inclusion of boys. This year we co-hosted workshops that informed parents and community members the importance of girls staying in school and provided life skills training to encourage girls to use their voices to share what they’ve learned to as many people as possible. With the participation of boys, parents, community members, and fellow peers, the program has impacted 17,049 lives in 2018! PROGRAM DETAILS
Accelerated Learning in Classroom Program
3,020 Teachers Trained Since 2009
We expanded our efforts in promoting the use of technology in classrooms through offering our “Digital Smart Start Kit” in each school we work with and by incorporating Information and Communications Technology in all of our programs. In 2018 we equipped 58 schools with digital tools and trained 232 teachers directly. Education can create the biggest impact and we were able to impact 4,929 lives! PROGRAM DETAILS
Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) Program
306,000+ Lives Impacted Since 2010
Our Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) Program made great achievements this year in providing the education and hands-on experience to increase employability for youth. This year, at our annual LEI summit we brought together students from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda to share ideas on leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills.
Students in an After School Club created a garden and farm and sold their produce to the local market while gaining business skills, and LEI alumni formed the Youth Leadership Club that inspired the expansion of 40 additional regional clubs. With 1,171 active LEI participants, the program has impacted 56,207 lives in 2018! PROGRAM DETAILS
Scale & Sustainability – Pay it Forward
23,000+ Lives Reached by Pay it Forward in 2018
As the core component to impacting as many lives as possible, our “Pay it Forward” model is the heart in transforming youth into our next leaders and change agents. Through sharing what they’ve learned to their family members, peers, and networks, our youth pass on their skills and knowledge and inspire others to do the same. We were able to impact 23,085 lives in 2018 through our Pay it Forward model!
Accelerating Through Partnerships
We formed new partnerships in 2018 that would greatly benefit our efforts and overall mission. Some notable partnerships include Girls Not Brides, Tullow Oil and Statistics without Borders. We will be able to enhance our programs to impact even more lives with our new partnerships!
Looking beyond 2018, we remain focused on our goal to educate and empower rural youth in East Africa to allow them to thrive where they stand. Please join us in celebrating our impact! Download the full 2018 Impact Report.
