Zamana is a Tanzanian secondary school scholar, program participant with Asante Africa Foundation, and is the 2023 winner of the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award by Prince’s Trust International. This prestigious award honors the most inspiring young women who have participated in Prince’s Trust International programs and have made a positive impact on their own lives and their communities. She receives this reward as a result of her ‘Niache Nisome’ campaign and her work in promoting education for school-aged girls in her community.
‘Niache Nisome’, translated to ‘Allow Me to Study’ is a “little sister” program in Lushoto, Tanzania that helps young girls have “big sister mentors” and have a network to stay safe. Zamana initiates and leads conversations between young girls and their parents through this program too, designed at giving these girls a voice to share that they want to stay in school, and not become wives and mothers yet.
To date, Zamana has educated over 100 girls through Asante Africa’s school based clubs and throughout her community about the importance of staying in school. Zamana shares that she gained the confidence to lead this program through her engagement in the Enterprise Challenge Program, which was developed by Prince’s Trust International and is delivered by Asante Africa Foundation.

Commenting on her award win, Zamana shares:
“This award means so much to me. Every girl in my community has a dream for her future, just like girls all over the world. Education gives them the opportunity to follow their dreams and build a better future for themselves, their family and their community. When girls drop out of school early, they lose that opportunity. My dream is for more girls to stay in school”.
Zamana’s heartfelt words resonate deeply, reminding us that every individual, no matter their sphere of influence, carries the power to create positive change in the world. Her profound reflection underscores the universal aspirations shared by girls in her community and beyond. Education stands as the key that unlocks the doors to their dreams, enabling them to forge a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their communities. Yet, when girls are forced to abandon their education prematurely, they are deprived of this transformative opportunity. Zamana’s vision encompasses a world where more girls have the chance to remain in school, nurturing their dreams and shaping a better tomorrow for all.
