Asante Africa in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
In the heart of East Africa, we’re transforming lives through education. With dedicated teams in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, Asante Africa Foundation is committed to helping young people build brighter futures.
Asante Africa Kenya
In Kenya, Asante Africa Foundation focuses on rural communities, where students face significant barriers to accessing quality education. With our office headquarters in Samburu and a fully registered nonprofit status, our Kenya team is made up of local staff who live and work in the villages they serve. This grounded, community-first approach ensures our programs reflect local realities and foster long-term impact.
Since 2007, Asante Africa Foundation has worked in 294 schools across rural Kenya, reaching thousands of students. Our rural initiatives do more than improve classroom outcomes. They help youth build confidence, develop leadership and communication skills, practice financial literacy, and prepare for future job opportunities. Students are mentored by educators, local business owners, and peer leaders, creating a supportive network around every young person in the program.
We know the challenges are still great. National secondary school enrollment in Kenya is only 53%. In the broader region, roughly 30% of school aged youth in sub-Saharan Africa are not in school, and 31% of women worldwide are not educated or employed.
Asante Africa is committed to changing those odds by investing in education that’s relevant, inclusive, and influenced by local knowledge. In 2023 alone, our programs directly impacted 11,073 lives in Kenya, and more than 280,600 cumulatively since our founding. We are proud to have been recognized for our work with honors from the Top 10 NGOs in Kenya, the DIAR Awards, the Young Scientists Kenya award, and others.
It’s our dream to unlock educational opportunities for young people across East Africa, and we’re just getting started.
Asante Africa Tanzania
Asante Africa’s work in Tanzania began in 2007 in the northern region, where rural communities face some of the greatest challenges in accessing education and youth support services. With headquarters in Arusha, our team has spent years building trusted relationships with schools, families, and local leaders to create programs that reflect the needs of the communities we serve.
We’ve partnered with 204 schools across Tanzania to implement our core programs. In many regions of Tanzania, young people, especially girls, face serious barriers to education. Just 31% of students are enrolled in secondary school, and two out of every five girls are married off before the age of 18. Across sub-Saharan Africa, almost 60% of youth between the ages of 15 and 17 are not in school (source). We’re working hard to change these numbers through programs that are rooted in community trust and a long-term commitment to impact.
Asante Africa Foundation Tanzania has reached more than 220,000 individuals through education and youth development programs. In 2023, over 8,300 lives were directly impacted through hands-on learning, mentorship, and community support. Our long-term partnerships now extend across 204 schools, where we work closely with educators and local leaders to ensure meaningful change.
Asante Africa has been recognized for our dedication to expanding education and opportunity across rural Tanzania. One of the highest honors came with the King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award, celebrating Asante Africa’s efforts to equip young people with the skills, confidence, and support they need to shape their own futures.
Asante Africa Uganda
Since 2018, Asante Africa Foundation Uganda has been working from its headquarters in Mubende to increase access to quality education and life skills. What began with a handful of partnerships has grown into a wide-reaching network that includes 92 schools and communities. Our programs thrive because of the trust we’ve built with families, educators, and local leaders who are committed to creating more opportunity for their children.
Uganda faces serious challenges in education. With only 40% of students reaching literacy by the end of primary school and only 24% of adolescents going on to enroll in secondary school. Many girls face an even more difficult path—24% of children in Uganda have experienced sexual abuse at school, and early marriage continues to prevent many girls from completing their education.
We’re helping to change that. In 2023, Asante Africa directly impacted 4,715 lives in Uganda. Our partnerships with organizations like Days for Girls, Teach a Man to Fish, and Girls Not Brides allow us to expand our reach and provide comprehensive support for young learners.
As a result, we’re seeing more children stay in school, more girls transition to secondary education, and more communities standing up for the right to education. Since launching our work in Uganda, we’ve reached more than 71,000 individuals. And every year, that number grows.
Becoming a Partner
We’ve seen firsthand that transformation doesn’t always begin with big policies. Sometimes, it starts with something as simple as a safe classroom. But none of what we do is possible without collaboration. Asante Africa Kenya, Asante Africa Tanzania, and Asante Africa Uganda, rely on teachers, families, funders, and volunteers. Every one of you is part of this movement.
Our future growth in East Africa will continue to be powered by partnerships that support education, youth employment, development. We actively pursue collaborations that unlock new resources and expand access to life-changing education.
