Bringing Health and Dignity to Kenya

As part of the “Youth Essentials Kit” initiative, Asante Africa team members in Samburu County, Kenya, distributed kits which included 2 packs of sanitary towels for girls and their mothers. Simon, one of the mentors, reached out to girls in their manyatta (house) and assembled them at a local school to provide emo- tional support by providing a space for the girls to discuss their needs and challenges during this time.

“I had no income when this COVID-19 scare began. During the first few weeks the family lived only on boiled milk. But things changed when we got the essentials from Asante Africa. I was relieved to get sanitary pads for my 4 adolescent girls. They had been using cloth pieces and stayed indoors the whole day out of shyness, claiming to be sick. While the food nourished our stomachs, the sanitary pads protected our dignity.” ~ Natasha, mother of one of Asante Africa’s scholarship beneficiary
