Florence’s Story from Maasai Roots to Youth Empowerment
Florence Thomas, Country Manager Tanzania
Born into the Maasai community of Tanzania, Florence learned early on the transformative power of education, particularly as many young girls faced significant barriers to learning. Inspired by her father, a dedicated community leader, she was motivated to dedicate her life to serving others. Driven by a deep passion for education, she pursued her studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Florence began her career as a teacher in Singida, where she quickly realized the critical importance of mentorship and leadership development for young people.
Her journey then led her to GLAMI, where she worked as a Programs Mentor for Girls, supporting over 700 girls in acquiring essential life skills and leadership training. Following that, she joined the Asante Africa Foundation as a Regional Coordinator, where she had the privilege of leading impactful projects, including a notable partnership with the FAO. Her contributions led to a promotion to Program Lead, and in 2024, after serving as Interim Country Manager, she was honored to be confirmed as the Country Manager for Asante Africa Foundation, Tanzania.
Through these experiences, Florence has witnessed firsthand how education can break the cycles of poverty and empower young people to lead their communities. Her vision is to build a Tanzania where every child, particularly girls, has the opportunity to thrive. She is passionate about traveling, learning, and connecting with like-minded individuals to foster lasting change.
Inspired by the lessons of her father and fueled by her belief in the potential of young people, Florence remains deeply committed to empowering the next generation of leaders and nurturing strong, resilient communities.
