From Tomatoes to Threads: Marium’s Journey
Marium, a resilient 27-year-old single mother and entrepreneur, found her passion and success in the children’s clothing business through her involvement with Asante Africa’s Kifuka Community Learning Group.
Initially, Marium operated a humble tomato stall in Kifuka town council, but her participation in the Youth Livelihood Program equipped her with valuable saving skills that enabled her to join a Village Savings SACCO. Through consistent weekly savings, Marium accumulated 400,000 Ugandan Shillings, which she invested in upgrading her business from tomatoes to children’s clothes. Working diligently in local markets from Monday to Friday, Marium’s dedication and budgeting skills have propelled her business growth exponentially. Within just one year, her initial capital of 400,000 Ugandan Shillings has flourished to 1.2 million, showcasing the remarkable impact of effective financial management and strategic planning. The profits generated from her thriving business have not only allowed Marium to pay her house rent but also provided for the well-being of her two children, illustrating the transformative power of entrepreneurship in creating a sustainable livelihood.
Looking towards the future, Marium envisions expanding her business further by renting a larger room in town and establishing a bigger shop, demonstrating her ambition and determination to achieve even greater success. Marium’s inspiring journey from tomatoes to threads symbolizes her resilience, resourcefulness, and unwavering commitment to creating a better future for herself and her family, supported by the empowering environment of Asante Africa’s programs and the Kifuka Community Learning Group.
