Asante Africa Staff Launch Irente Orphanage Fundraiser
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting education and well-being in underprivileged communities, one of our dedicated staff members, Kelvin, on the Asante Africa Foundation – Tanzania team, organized a one-week fundraising campaign to support the Irente Orphanage Center. Through Kelvin’s ambition and the help of the team, Asante Africa was able to provide the orphanage with the items they desperately needed.
The Irente orphanage was established in 1963 in accordance with the Lutheran church. Irente provides homes and education for orphaned children and children with special needs under the collaboration of the church and the government.
To address the immediate and specific student needs outlined by the orphanage, a comprehensive fundraising campaign was launched across multiple social media platforms. Utilizing WhatsApp groups, word of mouth, and the Asante Africa Tanzania Instagram page, the team began to collect the essentials requested by the orphanage, such as notebooks, bathing soap, body lotion, sanitary towels, sugar, cooking oil, toothbrushes, and more.
We’re excited to announce the response from the community and stakeholders was overwhelming!
As a result of the campaign, the total amount raised amounted to 326,000 Tanzanian shillings. In a true display of community everyone pitched in: the CEO of Asante Africa generously donated 100,000 Tanzanian shillings, friends of the Asante Africa Foundation contributed 96,000 Tanzanian shillings (and an donations including boxes of washing soap and powder soap and toothbrushes), staff members collectively contributed 65,000 Tanzanian shillings and the foundation’s supplier contributed 65,000 Tanzanian shillings.
The proceeds were efficiently used to purchase the requested items for the orphanage: the aforementioned items plus pens, exercise books, socks, and handkerchiefs. These essential items will improve the living conditions and educational experiences of the 76 boarding students and 35 day students at the Irente Orphanage Center.
The visit to Irente Orphanage marks a successful collaboration between Asante Africa Foundation and the community as everyone’s generous contributions came together to make a positive impact on the lives of the orphanage’s students.
