Mariam’s Initiative Impacts 60 Students and Counting
The effects of Community Learning Groups in Uganda have led to initiation of another School Based Club at Mityana Secondary School in the Buganda region.
Mariam is a young girl from a deeply remote village in Kyenjojo District, Tooro Region. During the second wave of the COVID-19 lockdown in Uganda, schools were again closed and Mariam almost gave up on her studies. When she heard news that Asante Africa formed a Community Learning Group for the youth in her community, she reached a turning point, like so many other students.
After graduating from our Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) program’s first curriculum, she acquired many skills and ideas. When schools resumed, she was able to convince her Head Teacher to allow Asante Africa’s LEI program to run in her school because it was going to deeply impact her fellow youth, especially with both leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
The Mityana Secondary School’s LEI School Based Club in the Buganda region now has 60 members and activities are going on well, all thanks to Mariam.
