From Poultry to Prosperity: Alifunce’s Journey of Growth and Entrepreneurship
In 2023, Alifunce joined Asante Africa Foundation’s Scholarship Program while in primary school, marking the beginning of a transformative journey that would change his life forever. With the encouragement and support from the Scholarship Program and the skills gained from attending the Wezesha Vijana program, Alifunce discovered his passion for farming and entrepreneurship, ultimately leading him to develop a successful income-generating project.
Using the knowledge he gained, 14 year old Alifunce was inspired to explore income-generating activities, a key component that all students learn during their participation in Asante Africa’s programs. He wisely saved a portion of his pocket money, amounting to 30,000 Uganda shillings, and also solicited support from his uncle to invest in his idea to launch a poultry project. He purchased 5 hens, which have since grown to a flock of over 25 birds, making the project a profitable and successful venture. Feeling motivated with his success he decided to establish a small tomato garden inspired by his neighbor’s successful cultivation. The neighbor generously provided tomato seedlings in support of Alifunce’s endeavors. His entrepreneurial spirit did not stop there, Alfunce also initiated a goat project with the help of his grandmother. The grandmother supported him with 2 goats and since then the herd has grown to 5.
He says out of his endeavors, he has learned a lot of lessons, such as;
Risk-taking: By investing in his poultry project and the tomato garden he took a calculated risk which has paid off in the long run.
Networking: Alfunce’s neighbor’s support and generosity highlight the importance of building relationships and seeking help from others.
Diversifying his income streams: Through poultry, tomato, and goat farming, He has reduced his reliance on a single source of income.
Alifunce’s ultimate dream is to become a modern farmer, and he is proactively seeking knowledge in the field. He plans to invest his profits from both projects into buying more goats and setting aside emergency funds for medical expenses as his grandmother often struggles to afford hospital bills as well as his personal needs.
Alifunce’s journey is a testament to the impact of mentorship training and resource empowerment. Asante Africa Foundation’s support has enabled him to take ownership of his future, develop entrepreneurial skills, and build a safety net for his family. His story serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating that with determination and hard work, even the most ambitious dreams can become a reality.
