Robinah: Excellence in Academics

Mar 6, 2025

Ever since she was a child, Robinah has been trapped in poverty with her single mother in rural Uganda. Her mother has worked hard to provide a living, but due to their economic situation, her earnings have never been high enough. This situation is not isolated to just Robinah and her mother. In Uganda, about 50% of households led by single mothers live in poverty, due to economic factors and societal prejudices. Approximately 23% of young girls enrolled in school have had to drop out due to pregnancy. Fortunately,  Robinah’s living situation was no longer a hindrance when she was given a unique opportunity for any child in her position.

In 2023, Robinah joined Asante Africa’s Scholarship Program. This program assists students with excellent academic performance reviews in obtaining a higher education, without heavy financial strains. Only 1 out of every 20 to 25 students get selected for this scholarship, so it was a huge honor for Robinah to be chosen.

In 2024, Robinah took the Primary Learning Examination (PLE) alongside several other students. This is an important exam in Ugandan institutions that secures a student’s transition from primary to secondary school. Robinah passed the PLE with flying colors, and emerged as one of the top performing students in her school. It was a grand achievement for a student like Robinah, who came from a background of extreme poverty and little opportunity, to break free of that cycle and receive a quality education through hard work and perseverance.

Robinah is currently getting ready for her first year of Secondary School, motivated by a renewed sense of purpose. The Asante Africa Scholarship Program is a blessing for students like Robinah, who are pursuing a higher level education but lack the resources to do so. We are grateful for the continued support for our program that allows us to provide opportunities to impoverished young students all across East Africa.
