Simon’s Path to Leadership
Simon’s story is one of resilience and determination. Growing up in financial hardship, he remained committed to making a meaningful impact in healthcare. In 2016, while at Secondary School, he joined the Youth Livelihood Program in Moshi, Tanzania, shaping his passion for leadership and mentorship. Despite financial challenges, Simon pursued a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, graduating in December 2022. He funded his education through loans, part-time work, and parental support while also assisting his family.
Simon quickly rose as a leader, serving as a national novice nurse representative and a member of the National Executive Committee of the Nurses Association. His mentorship efforts extended to supporting high school and college students across Central Kenya, paying school fees for his younger brother and orphaned cousin, and launching initiatives like the Young Business Tycoons Group and a rabbit-rearing project at his former high school. At 26, Simon is a seasoned professional in research, counseling, coaching, medical management, and leadership. His goal is to expand his impact globally, aligning with organizations like Asante Africa Foundation to drive meaningful change.
Simon’s journey was truly catalyzed by his involvement in the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), which served as the cornerstone for his personal and professional growth. It was through this program that Simon cultivated essential leadership skills, which he later applied throughout his academic and professional journey. The mentorship and entrepreneurial training he received in the YLP not only provided him with the tools to succeed in his studies and career but also shaped his passion for mentoring others. His participation in the YLP ignited his drive to give back to his community and inspired him to create initiatives that empower youth, ultimately launching his impactful career in healthcare and leadership.
