Success at Saving, Uganda

Oct 3, 2020

Joanitah, the team leader of Kiwumulo Group with 5 members (4 girls and 1 boy) has formed the group with the purpose of saving money and starting a small business for themselves. So far, each member saves 100 Ugandan Shillings per week. Using their combined savings and after analyzing the market need, the group has decided to start selling eggs in their village.

From the profits of their egg selling business, Joanitah and her colleagues buy basic necessities like soap, sanitary pads, clothes, underwears, bras, jelly, and other things. The group also believes that their business will continue to grow and they will be able to increase their supply by starting a poultry rearing business to reduce the expense of buying the eggs.

The group also encourages other girls to think of businesses that can help them earn income, be independent, and self-sufficient. They encourage other girls to start with whatever they have and look for opportunities to grow and branch out.
