Kassanda District’s Women’s Day Celebration

How Can We Empower WomenIn celebration of the invaluable contributions and engagement of women, a local secondary school in the Kassanda District of Uganda hosted the Women’s Day celebrations on April 30th. The event aimed to: appreciate and recognize the pivotal roles of women within the community, promote the inclusion of women in underrepresented fields, highlight women’s empowerment, encourage increased female participation in these underrepresented fields, and foster collaboration between schools and communities to advocate for gender equality.

Representing Asante Africa Foundation, Pure Roasted Coffee, a business operated by male and female students out of a local school, shared their inspiring journey on how uplifting and investing in the education of students across all genders can create an immense impact. They discussed their efforts in creating opportunities through locally sourced coffee, utilizing proceeds to purchase a briquette maker to combat deforestation and conserve energy, thus positively impacting their community. The celebratory event garnered a significant turnout of over 500 attendees, including notable figures such as the State Minister of Defense, Sarah Mateke, and the Chief Magistrate of the Kassanda District, among others.

Women's EmpowermentThese students were guided by Asante Africa Foundation’s Youth Livelihood Program that aims to develop young minds by providing them with the resources and knowledge necessary to establish themselves within their own communities for their communities- creating the cycle of paying it forward. These Pay-it-Forward Projects are an integral part of Asante Africa Foundation’s mission, teaching students valuable skills and encouraging them to apply these skills to solve real-world problems within their communities. Students learn various skills, ranging from entrepreneurial skills and financial literacy to sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation techniques. By addressing local challenges such as deforestation, energy conservation, and economic development, the students not only enhance their own livelihoods but also drive positive change within their communities. Through Pay-it-Forward Projects, Asante Africa Foundation has reached a total of 273,931 lives, with 44,613 lives impacted in 2023 alone. Similarly, the Youth Livelihood Program is designed to empower young individuals by equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to become an entrepreneur. This program provides training in leadership, business development, and technical skills, emphasizing the importance of community service and encouraging students to initiate projects that benefit their local areas. By fostering a sense of responsibility and community engagement, the Youth Livelihood Program helps create a sustainable impact that extends beyond the individual to the broader community.
