When Sanitary Products are a Luxury, Uganda

Four Youth, Sharon (age 16), Robinah (age 14), Annet (age 16), and Annet (age 13 ), from Asante Africa’s school-based club in Makokoto Seed Secondary School shared with us that they have never seen or used sanitary pads because their parents couldn’t afford them. Instead they have been using toilet paper and cut pieces of cloth for handling their menstruation.

They are grateful to Asante Africa Foundation for giving them reusable sanitary pads and soap to keep clean. The items are very helpful because they can continue to reuse them and they will help them maintain hygiene during menstruation.
