Supporting Girls Education:
How You Can Get Involved with Asante Africa

Imagine a world where every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute her unique talents to society. At Asante Africa, we believe that to educate girls is to empower communities. As a leading NGO focused on girls education, our mission is to break barriers, provide opportunities, and inspire lasting change for generations to come.

Every year on February 11th, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science highlights the critical role women and girls play in science and technology. This day reminds us that access to education—especially in STEM fields—is a powerful driver of equality and innovation. As a dedicated girls foundation, Asante Africa leads the charge with impactful programs like Wezesha Vijana and the Digital Employability and Entrepreneurship Program (DEEP), equipping young girls with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to transform their futures.
Join us in supporting girls’ education and creating opportunities. Together, we can make a difference.

WHY GIRLS’ EDUCATION MATTERS

Globally, millions of girls are denied access to quality education due to barriers like gender inequality, poverty, and restrictive cultural norms.

According to UNESCO, an estimated 122 million girls are out of school worldwide. In sub-Saharan Africa in particular, girls remain far less likely than their male counterparts to go to school at any education level. Over half of all children out of primary and secondary school are in Africa. These numbers highlight the urgent need for action to address systemic challenges and provide opportunities for every girl to learn and thrive.

When we educate girls, the benefits ripple far beyond the classroom. Research shows that girls who complete their education are more likely to avoid child marriage, have healthier families, and contribute significantly to their communities. Additionally, educated girls are more likely to break cycles of poverty, improving health outcomes and economic stability for future generations.

ASANTE AFRICA’S PROGRAMS SUPPORTING GIRLS’ EDUCATION

At Asante Africa, our programs are designed to address educational challenges and provide critical resources, creating opportunities for girls to lead meaningful, impactful lives. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Wezesha Vijana Program

The Wezesha Vijana Program focuses on empowering young girls through education, mentorship, and life skills development. “Wezesha Vijana,” meaning “empowering ourselves” in Swahili, equips girls with the tools to overcome societal challenges, such as early marriage, gender discrimination, and limited access to education. The program also includes boys as peer-allies—making up 33% of participants—who are educated about the unique challenges girls face and learn how to support their female peers.

Through this program, girls are equipped with the tools they need to thrive through education, life skills training, and mentorship.

Youth Livelihood Program

The Youth Livelihood Program bridges the gap between education and employability by preparing young people for the workforce. This program emphasizes financial literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and career readiness, enabling students to achieve economic independence and make informed life decisions.

Digital Employability and Entrepreneurship Program (DEEP) Initiative

A vital part of the Youth Livelihood Program is the DEEP Initiative, which focuses on equipping young people with digital skills and entrepreneurial knowledge. In today’s modern economy, these skills are essential for success. By teaching coding, digital literacy, and online business management, the DEEP Initiative empowers students to secure jobs, start businesses, and thrive in technology-driven industries.

With these transformative programs, Asante Africa is paving the way for girls and young people to rise above societal limitations and lead as innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Supporting these initiatives helps create a world where every girl has the chance to succeed.

WHY WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE IS SO IMPORTANT

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is a powerful tool for breaking barriers and unlocking opportunities for women and girls. By fostering curiosity, problem-solving skills, and innovation, STEM careers empower individuals to drive change and contribute meaningfully to society. Despite this potential, women and girls remain underrepresented in STEM fields due to systemic barriers like gender stereotypes, limited resources, and unequal access to education.

At Asante Africa, we’re committed to changing this narrative. Through our programs, we create pathways for girls to excel in science and technology. By providing access to digital tools, hands-on learning experiences, and mentorship, we inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM. For instance, participants learn digital literacy and entrepreneurship, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11th) is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women and girls in STEM and to advocate for greater gender equity in these fields. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of creating environments where girls can dream big and realize their potential as scientists, engineers, and innovators.

By supporting girls in STEM, we’re not just preparing them for the workforce—we’re fostering a generation of leaders who will drive progress and solve the challenges of tomorrow. Together, we can champion this cause and inspire more girls to embrace science and technology as a pathway to a brighter future.
