Asante Africa Foundation plays an important role in boosting creativity and innovation among young Eastern African learners.
In 2022, the Asante Africa Foundation launched a school-based Club comprising 40 members as part of its Youth Livelihood Program. The club engaged in sessions on leadership, financial management, and entrepreneurship, significantly enhancing participants’ skills. Notably, they fostered a culture of saving and initiated a group business named “Pure Roasted Coffee,” focusing on local resources and sustainability. With 27 female, 13 male, and 2 teacher members, the club raised start-up capital through membership fees, donations, and school support, totaling Ugshs: 105,000. They invested in coffee-related equipment and assigned roles across departments like HR, procurement, and finance. Despite initial costs of Ugshs: 306,400, the club generated Ugshs: 382,000 in sales, yielding a profit of Ugshs: 75,600. Per their club constitution, all profits were reinvested for business growth. Through this venture, participants gained valuable skills in communication, teamwork, negotiation, and marketing, aligning with the club’s mission to empower youth entrepreneurs.
In another example of Asante Africa Foundation’s efforts, alumni of the Asante Africa school-based club, Bakari, Iddrisa, and Hamisi utilized their leadership and entrepreneurship skills to mentor a young student from their community, January. January initiated an environmental project aimed at educating and conserving the environment by distributing trees to villagers in their district. The project, supported by CRDB and NMB banks, NGOs, and the district council, received 180,000 Tanzanian shillings in funds and a car for transportation. Additionally, two community members donated 400,000 Tanzanian shillings, resulting in the distribution of 7,000 shade and fruit tree seeds to 837 villagers, despite facing challenges like water scarcity and inadequate supplies.
