Ways to Give Over the Holiday Season

Dec 7, 2021

The holiday season can be a bit of a whirlwind, especially for generous people, like yourself, who want to share their gratitude and well-being with kindness and charity. So much need; so little time!

Well, we want to offer some ways you might channel your energy and generous spirit. And remember, for U.S. citizens, every direct financial contribution is 100% tax deductible. In a sense, Uncle Sam is encouraging you to contribute to us. Don’t let him down! Here are some ways:

Donate directly! Here are several ways to donate directly.

The most obvious way is to send a cheque or make a donation via our Donate Now link https://asanteafrica.org/gifts/

Asante Africa Foundation

Livermore, CA 94550

Become a Luminary and get that good, giving feeling year round. Join our community of monthly donors at whatever level you set $5, $10, $15, $1000! Signing on is easy. Just go here and choose your level:https://asanteafrica.org/donate-recurring/

Double-donate! Oftentimes employers will match charitable contributions. If you work for a company, perhaps yours does. Give HR a call and find out.

Get Bullish!

If you are invested in the stock market, likely you have had a good year. Congrats! Here are ways you might share your bounty while enjoying some tax benefits.

Donate Appreciated Stock. By giving Appreciated Stock, you can avoid the capital gains tax and also claim an income tax deduction for the full current value. Contact us for instructions on how to make your gift or talk to your tax advisor.

Contribute to or open a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) account and enjoy tax savings. By using a DAF for your charitable giving, you can save both money and time. Just recommend a grant and your account advisor will take care of the rest.

Give directly from your IRA. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a gift directly from your IRA with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Make your gift now to ensure funds are withdrawn from your IRA before the end of the year.

Go Beyond Liking Us

Why not help us get by with a little help from your friends? Start a Facebook Fundraiser, and let your friends rally round. This has proven to be a most effective way for our supporters to support us. https://www.facebook.com/fund/AsanteAfrica/

Volunteer or Intern! While our on-the-ground work takes place in East Africa, much of the support for that work takes place virtually, often from the comfort of one’s home. Whether you have skills (or would like to develop some) in fundraising, marketing, data analysis, writing creative content, or more, Asante Africa needs you! Consider sharing time with us. https://asanteafrica.org/opportunities/

Donate indirectly!

Shop Amazon Smile! If you make purchases through Amazon.com, setting up your Amazon Smile account with Asante Africa as your beneficiary, Amazon will apportion 0.5% of the cost of your eligible purchases toward our organization. “Smiling” is easy.

You can go to smile.amazon.com/ch/71-1010614. This is the direct link for supporting Asante Africa.

And don’t keep the smiles to yourself. Encourage your family and friends to generate funds for Asante Africa through Amazon’s Smile program. (In case you’re wondering how far 0.5% goes — It doesn’t sound like much — The Amazon Smile program has donated $286 million to program charities – since August 2021!)

Ship your air miles. Do you have some frequent flyer miles collecting dust in the hangar? You can donate your frequent flyer miles to us! Simply contact the airline(s) with whom you’ve racked up those miles and tell them you’d like to donate some or all of those miles  to Asante Africa.

Donate an in-kind gift. Such as laptops, tablets, cell phones, sanitary pads — we’re flexible! Contact us with more possibilities. info@asanteafrica.org

These are just some ideas. You may have others. All we can say is that, at Asante Africa Foundation, we appreciate the ways you have supported us in the past, and hope that you can support us further this holiday time of year. Thank you.
