John’s Future in Science Fueled by Determination
Celebrating John on World Science Day
Each year on November 10, we celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development, an occasion set by UNESCO to highlight the impact of science on society and the importance of using knowledge for sustainable development and global peace. This day reminds us of the power of education in shaping future leaders and changemakers, especially those who go on to impact the lives of others. Among the many remarkable stories of transformation and empowerment, John’s journey of tenacity is a testament to the profound impact of education and support.
A Journey Fueled by Determination and Support
John, a recent graduate of Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Education Science, has become an inspiring example of resilience and growth. John’s story with Asante Africa Foundation began when he was in form two (sophomore in high school), navigating challenges due to his humble background. Despite his determination, financial constraints threatened to derail his academic journey. That was when Asante Africa Foundation stepped in, supporting him through scholarship and easing the burden of educational expenses.
With Asante Africa Foundation covering his educational needs, John poured himself into his studies, excelling year after year. He completed his university degree with flying colors and even started teaching Biology and Mathematics before he graduated – demonstrating a natural talent and deep commitment to the field of science.
Now, as he prepares to begin his career as a full-time Biology teacher at a secondary school in Kenya, John’s vision extends far beyond his own achievements. He’s passionate about using his expertise to help other students discover the beauty of science, especially in a world increasingly shaped by technological advancements and scientific breakthroughs. John is dedicated to making science accessible, engaging, and inspiring for students who may face similar challenges to those he encountered.
Inspiring Future Scientists

John envisions his classroom as a space where students learn scientific theories and engage in practical, hands-on activities that bring science to life. He aims to introduce simple but impactful experiments that can spark curiosity and make abstract concepts more tangible.
“I want my students to see that science is not just about textbooks – it’s about understanding the world around them. I want to give them the confidence to ask questions and seek solutions, no matter where they come from,” John says.
John also plans to start a science club at the school to create a platform where students can discuss ideas, work on projects, and participate in science competitions. Through this club, he hopes to foster a love for scientific inquiry and inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields. He’s particularly keen on guiding his students toward environmental science and conservation, seeing the importance of these fields in rural Kenya, where the effects of climate change are already evident.
The Ripple Effect of Education
John’s story and his aspirations to give back to his community showcase the transformative potential of education when paired with support and opportunity. His journey with Asante Africa Foundation has not only impacted his life but will also create a ripple effect, as he inspires future scientists, researchers, and innovators from his local community.
As we celebrate World Science Day, John’s journey reminds us of the critical role of education and mentorship in building a brighter future. Through his work, John is bringing the values of World Science Day to life, fostering peace, and development by empowering young minds with the tools to create a better tomorrow.
