From Cleaning to Digitally Leading, Kenya

In 2021, Rose joined the first cohort of our digital apprenticeship initiative while continuing her work. After recognizing her potential, Asante Africa enrolled Rose as a full-time digital apprentice. Rose graduated from the program with two globally recognized certifications in IT Support offered by Google. After graduating, Rose secured a job with an education technology company as the head of curriculum development. Hear her journey in her own words:

“My name is Rose Ochieng and I am a single mom. I joined Asante Africa in 2020 as a janitor in their Kenya office. I wanted to complete my studies which were affected by lack of fees. In 2021, Asante Africa gave me a chance to be a volunteer in the Accelerated Learning Program for digital transformation where I acquired digital skills. I was able to enroll in online classes where I acquired certificates in Technical Support Fundamentals and The Bits and Bytes of Computer Networking.

Currently, I am working with a private company as Head of Curriculum. With my team we’re creating digital content that is meant to enhance learning and acquisition of digital skill for the next generation. I am a proud woman to be in Tech. Thank you Asante Africa for allowing me that opportunity.”
