A Wish Received

Simon has proved himself to be incredibly resilient, enabling his success academically. He dreams of a future where he can provide medical services to his community by becoming a surgeon. This is no easy quest, but Simon approaches challenges with purpose and confidence, often turning to his favorite verse in the Bible, “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7).

He has persevered throughout his childhood, facing food insecurity, and financial instability. Simon lives with his grandmother and his two younger siblings. They rely on World Food Program relief food and occasional support from compassionate neighbors. Teachers play a significant role in Simon’s life, supporting him with food and essential items for many years.

As a 9th grader at a boys secondary school in Kenya, Simon has always been a standout student. His primary school head teacher and the school staff noticed Simon’s potential and supported him during his primary education, where he consistently achieved high marks. The head teacher has always advocated for Simon, seeking assistance from the government and the community to cover his school expenses and personal needs. But since that hasn’t been enough for Simon to continue his education, his head teacher reached out to Asante Africa Foundation and Simon is now a scholarship student.

Recognizing Simon’s dedication and vulnerability, the head teacher continues to guide him, relying on the generosity of well-wishers to further his education. During breaks in school, Simon resides with the head teacher, providing a conducive environment for focused learning.

Simon possesses a unique (and rare!) passion for mathematics and problem-solving. We are confident that his perseverance and benevolence are what will drive him to be a successful young man – and surgeon. Ultimately, we hope that Asante Africa’s scholarship will enable him to provide and care for his grandmother and younger siblings as well.
