About Us
Our Asante Africa Foundation Kenya location is a fully registered nonprofit with local staff living and working within their own communities.
Our belief in the empowerment of youth through education is put into practice in over 300 schools across rural Kenya since 2007.
Through our Youth Livelihood Program, Wezesha Vijana Program, and Accelerated Learning Program, families and communities become engaged and value the power of education.
Beyond the classroom curriculum, local staff, youth mentors and business entrepreneurs are part of a larger community that supports the youth in building self confidence, learning financial literacy, leadership skills, job readiness and more.

Ruth is a performance-driven and trustworthy accounting, finance and audit professional with an impressive track record. Having grown up in rural Kenya, she understands the importance of empowering East Africa’s youth to confidently address life’s challenges, thrive in the global economy, and catalyze positive change.
Ruth began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Kenya, specializing in leading organizational audits and learning the bones of accounting, financials and audit. Ruth holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in French from L’Alliance Française.

Sharon Mitchelle Okwach is passionate about helping others and giving back to the community, as well as, focusing on mental health wellness. She graduated with a degree in Social Work which began her journey into volunteering at the Kenya Red Cross where she rose to be part of the youth board.
She has experience in monitoring and evaluation at Smart Start Organization in Siaya, and Asante Africa Foundation, in the Turkana region of Kenya. Outside of work she enjoys reading, learning about personal finance, and baking in her free time. She believes that change can come one day at a time.
Opiyo Polycarp is an actuarial science graduate with a strong drive, determination, and a passion for problem-solving. His technical skills include proficiency in Python, R, and Julia programming languages, as well as web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Additionally, he is highly experienced with MS Office products, enabling him to work efficiently in various data and analytical environments.
Beyond professional skills, he has a deep interest in data analysis and enjoy uncovering insights through coding. He also enjoys working with children, and his involvement with Asante Africa Foundation has enhanced his leadership, mentorship skills and soft skills. In his leisure time, he is an avid reader of novels, which helps fuel his creativity, and a dedicated Formula 1 enthusiast, always eager to follow the latest races and innovations in the sport.
Oliver is an accomplished financial economist with extensive experience in financial management and administration. Currently, he serves as both the Finance and Administration Manager and the AYP Project Accountant. In his role as Finance and Administration Manager, Oliver excels in managing complex financial projects and models, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and overseeing budgeting and financial planning. He is also responsible for supervising the team, managing procurement processes, and conducting capacity-building initiatives for staff.
In his capacity as the AYP Project Accountant, Oliver not only manages project-specific financials, including budget reviews and donor reporting, but he has also spearheaded the closeout of the AYP Project. Despite the tough financial obligations and challenges, Oliver has single-handedly handled the project with exceptional dedication and skill.
Moreover, Oliver’s commitment extends beyond traditional financial roles. He has actively engaged in HIV/AIDS training and awareness creation in Turkana, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to impactful social initiatives, even though his academic background is in accounting.
His other roles include serving as a Project Accountant at Asante Africa Foundation Kenya, where he manages grant finances and conducted financial analysis, and previously as a Regional Grants Intern with the Kenya Red Cross Society, where he focused on auditing financial reports and managing petty cash.
With a strong track record in financial analysis, strategic planning, and effective communication, Oliver’s dedication to growing as a financial economist and making impactful contributions to both commercial and social enterprises is truly commendable. This blend of financial expertise and social commitment is why we honor him.
Sarah Huricha is an alumna of the Asante Africa Foundation. She enrolled in the Digital Employability and Entrepreneurship program, where she learned computer skills and completed the Google IT certificate course. She has big dreams and ambitions, and is passionate about making a difference in the community and impacting the lives of young people. She gained work experience as a credit analyst for four months at Inuka Africa. Additionally, she worked as an EdTech at Asante Africa, served as a clerk during the general election, and volunteered in community health by conducting awareness campaigns. She is currently an intern at the Asante Africa Foundation.
Highly motivated professional with a Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation and a strong background in public health and development. Experienced in advocating for social issues, conducting sensitization programs, and monitoring project progress. Skilled in data collection, report writing, and implementing MEL methodologies. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and operationally to drive program success. Excellent communication and networking skills with a proven track record of engaging diverse audiences. Currently serving as the regional coordinator at Asante Africa Foundation with an excellent performance in training and workshops such as training of Trainers, supporting in coordinating and overseeing all programs in the region which includes collaborating with teacher mentors in conducting sessions in schools and conducting monthly visits to monitor programs progress.
Brian is an Economics and Statistics graduate from the University of Nairobi, with a robust background in digital marketing and data analysis. He brings a data-driven approach to marketing, blending creativity with analytical precision to develop strategies that are not only innovative but also highly effective.
He is deeply committed to using his skills for social impact, particularly in support of Asante Africa Foundation’s mission to empower youth through education and entrepreneurship. He believes in the power of education as a transformative tool and is driven by the opportunity to help shape the next generation of leaders.
Jackson is a compassionate health professional with a specialty in public health. He is always committed to perform at the best level of capacity to ensure the set objectives are achieved and driven by the challenges that arise from the working environment. Jackson is accustomed to fast-paced, high-pressured positions, demonstrating the ability to set priorities that deliver qualitative output, prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines and provide quality service. He is determined to do his part in removing the barriers of poverty and preventable diseases from people’s life living in low-income communities through education and skills empowerment.
Jackson holds a BSc in Environmental Health from Mount Kenya University. He has over four years’ experience working with community and youth livelihoods programs across health, education and skills empowerment programs. Currently serving as Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Associate at Asante Africa Foundation responsible for monitoring of project activities at projects sites to ensure the projects achieve the set objectives and goals.
Previously, He worked as Turkana regional coordinator at Asante Africa Foundation. While in this position, he was able to oversee smooth implementation of the programs in the region through seamless coordination efforts that brought all partners on board. These included but not limited to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, National Government Agencies and communities within the project implementation areas.
Christine is a dedicated Scholarship Coordinator with extensive experience in project management and information technology, committed to ensuring the seamless administration and management of Asante Africa’s scholarship programs. With a strong background in project execution, stakeholder engagement, and data-driven decision-making, she brings a unique blend of organizational skills and tech-savvy solutions to optimize processes and outcomes for scholarship beneficiaries.
Christine is enhancing her skills in strategic planning, resource allocation, and project lifecycle management to further strengthen her ability to oversee complex projects. Her expertise in IT allows her to leverage digital tools for efficient communication, data analysis, and program monitoring, ensuring that scholarship operations run smoothly and that beneficiaries receive the support they need.
Mbutai is a dedicated leader and change maker, with a passion for leveraging technology to drive sustainable development in rural communities. As an alumnus of the Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator 2019 Summit, he has emerged as a key advocate for digital inclusion, working to bridge the technology gap in marginalized areas.
Currently, Mbutai serves as the Regional Coordinator for Samburu County at Asante Africa Foundation, where he coordinates and oversees all programs across the county. His role in the organization also includes serving as an Education Technologist, where he harnesses his technical expertise to promote digital literacy and educational innovation in underserved regions.
Mbutai’s commitment to making a difference is rooted in the digital skills where he did Google IT on system administration, cybersecurity and Networking. He is also proficient in front-end Web development using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, positioning him as a tech-forward leader with the ability to solve real-world challenges through technology.
Mbutai also possesses skills such Strategic planning, data entry, project management and communication which enables to implement effective programs that uplift the rural communities’ in East Africa. Mbutai’s efforts are driven by his belief in the transformative power of technology and his desire to empower marginalized communities with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
Mbutai has actively volunteered as a mentor for the Enterprise Challenge delivered through Asante Africa Foundation in partnership with King Trust International. Through this initiative, he helps young entrepreneurs develop the strategic mindset and practical skills needed to launch and grow successful ventures in their communities.
Yollan is a dedicated and passionate finance professional with experience in both the banking and hospitality industry. She loves delving into financial data to uncover insights that drive strategic decision making and bring structure to complexity. Yollan is a CPA finalist with a Degree in Commerce majoring in Finance from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. Yollan have served in marginalized communities doing mission and volunteer work, birthing a passion for mentorship. In her spare time, Yollan enjoys nature, hiking, travelling and podcasts.
Dennis is a young ambitious and enthusiastic Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant and business professional with excellent interpersonal, analytical and communications skills. He is dedicated to providing outstanding data management and risk assessment & management. Dennis is a graduate of Northwood College where he studied computer studies. He is a recent graduate of Kenyatta University where he received his diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation.
In his spare time, Dennis enjoys swimming, reading novels, writing and journaling.
Kathryn is a versatile individual who has experience in advocacy work, coupled with a deep passion for education empowerment. Committed to driving positive change, they are eager to contribute to Asante Africa Foundation’s mission of transforming lives through education.
Faith has always enjoyed strategic networking and partnerships. She holds a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from University of Nairobi, equipping her with deep understanding of local and global issues. Prior to joining Asante Africa, she built up expertise in prospect research, grant writing, fundraising, communications and stakeholder engagement through her work in the Communications Authority of Kenya and SMACHS Foundation among other organizations.
Faith firmly believes in the transformative power of giving back to the society and mentoring the next generation of leaders inspired by mentorship she received. fully resonating with Asante Africa’s Pay-it-Forward philosophy. With her strong background, she is committed to advancing the foundation’s mission of providing young people with opportunities to grow into educated and resilient youth who will be the agents of Africa’s and global transformation.
Her passions for humanitarian work fuels her enthusiasm to create awareness with the youthful population, hence creating future leaders with head start knowledge of Sustainable development goals in her own country .She is dedicated to use her skills and experiences to mentor young minds and contribute to a future where education and social responsibility play a central role in shaping resilient communities. Faith is a firm believer in the general principle of reciprocity.
Dona is currently an intern at Asante Africa Foundation, Kenya; she support the Wamba region and all other programs within the organization. She is a self-motivated and principled individual who is determined to positively impact the environment at large; as a way of steering course for development locally and globally. She holds a degree in International Relations from Catholic University of Eastern Africa hence, having a background in social sciences. She has worked as a public relations assistant at County Assembly of Siaya. She possesses diplomatic skills; that she uses daily within and out of the organization.Dona is also a good rapporteur and has done several reports for the organization.
Dona’s interests are in advocacy; human rights, environment and gender activist which she gets to practice in her role at Asante Africa Foundation. Her greatest aspiration is to start a foundation that brings sustainable development to the benefactors.
Esther Samwel is an exceptional Programs Lead at Asante Africa Foundation with a strong background in development planning and a passion for empowering rural communities. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Rural Development and Planning from Sokoine University of Agriculture. Esther is known for her exceptional skills in event planning and management, ensuring that all team activities are executed flawlessly. She is also deeply committed to supporting scholarship students, working closely with them to ensure they excel academically and thrive in their personal development.
Since joining Asante Africa Foundation in 2020 as an intern, Esther has made significant contributions to the LEI and Wezesha Vijana programs, demonstrating her expertise in program management, community engagement, and advocacy for girls’ education. Her dedication to social change and her advocacy for girls’ right to education continue to create sustainable opportunities for young women and their communities.
Outside of work, Esther enjoys traveling, reading, and volunteering, reflecting her love for learning and her desire to make a positive impact on society.
John is a communicative and charismatic professional with a robust background in social science. He pursued a degree in Development Studies. He has a profound and unwavering determination to work with marginalized communities to break barriers and amplify people’s voices through empowerment and widening people’s choices to live decent and satisfactory lives.
At Asante Africa Foundation, he works closely with the digital transformation program lead and supports all other programs as well. He is good at coaching and facilitation which earned him a Best Mentor Medal during the CS4ALL boot camp. He has also been delegated to conduct and report on Marsabit regional activities.
John has vast knowledge in gender mainstreaming, gender analysis, community development project analysis e.g. stakeholder analysis, problem analysis, and strategic planning among others; and monitoring and evaluation by profession. He is currently advancing on information technology skills in web development and looking forward to advancing to higher levels of education in the future.
Kenya ~ Board of Directors
Senior Principal Magistrate currently based in Maralal Law Courts in the Samburu County. He joined the Judiciary as a District Magistrate (II) Professional and has steadily risen through the ranks, having worked at various stations across the country. He holds an LLM from the Lewis & Clark Law School, LL.B University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Laws from the Kenya School of Law. A certified professional Mediator from the Mediation Training Institute East Africa and was gazetted as an Honorary Warden of Kenya Wildlife Service in 2013.
In 2017 the President of the Republic of Kenya honoured and recognized Hon. Sitati for distinguished judicial service by gazetting him with the national honours the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW). The officer has served as a member of the Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Case Types Committee. Among his interests outside Court is that he is the Chairman of Asante Africa Foundation Board Kenya chapter.
| Everlyne Moraa Oyagi is a change-maker and an entrepreneur. Her advocacy ranges in matters Gender equality (SDG 5) and Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8). She is the C.E.O & Founder of Swazuri Events Ltd and KUZA Youth CBO in Mombasa. Everlyne is passionate about changing mindsets and inspiring lives of young Africans especially young female entrepreneurs through her work. She has created and organized over 40 events which have had an impact and reach of over 10,000. These events have helped the youths especially young women achieve personal growth, resilience and created positive change in society.
With a decade of experience in entrepreneurship, she has had young women start the digital footprint for their businesses to leverage on technology to increase sales, opened business bank accounts, streamlined their business systems and operations, widened their market share, built their personal brands, started businesses, and networked with peers in different fields. Everlyne uses her organizations to shape mindsets and enhance entrepreneurial skills of the youth so that we have more successful African youths especially females. She also partners with other personalities to offer mentorship to young women in business or career guidance for those in high school. She is a YALI Alumni 2020 (Young African Leader Initiative), TEF alumni 2020 (Tony Elumelu Foundation), ABSA SHE Star 2022 Everlyne unwinds by playing golf or tennis, hiking, reading or relaxing at home. |
Irene Thuo is a multifaceted professional with over 15 years of experience spanning Banking, Entrepreneurship, and Mental Health. She began her career with a Swiss bank in Kenya, Habib Bank AG Zurich, where she worked for nearly five years, gaining expertise in financial management, corporate governance, and strategic planning. For the past decade, she has been a dedicated entrepreneur and founder of Renekam Enterprise, focusing on engaging and promoting female producers and farmers to drive inclusive economic empowerment.
She is also a qualified Counselling Psychologist, who is passionate about working with both adults and children to help them discover meaning and the purpose in their lives. Her experience includes supporting children from Githogoro, an economically strained and underserved area in Nairobi, and working in substance use prevention and counselling.
She is currently serving as a Board member at Loreto High School, Limuru.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources Management, Bachelor of Arts in Counselling Psychology, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Commerce: Finance & Investment. Irene enjoys reading, cooking, hiking and a good laugh with friends and family.
| Melvin Cherono currently is a finance assistant at Hope Worldwide Kenya (HWWK) a dedicated finance professional with extensive expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management. She has successfully supported donor funded projects from donors such as the Global Fund Partnership and The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) aimed towards improving healthcare and agricultural sectors.
She is an advocate for the differently abled in society, dedicated to promoting inclusion, accessibility and equal opportunities for all. Melvin holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a major in finance from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). |
| Abdikadir Ismail is an esteemed educationist with a significant impact locally and internationally. As a co-founder of *Learning Unpacked APPLIED* and a Global Teacher Prize nominee (2018), he has been recognized for his dedication to enhancing education. Ismail serves as a Varkey Teacher Ambassador and is a respected School Principal. His contributions extend across boundaries as he is a certified School Leadership Facilitator for Sub-Saharan Africa under the British Council (Kenya).
Beyond his administration duties, Ismail is an exceptional mentor and trainer, influencing a new generation of educators. His work, especially in under-resourced schools, showcases his commitment to using technology to bridge educational gaps. An advocate for digital literacy, Abdikadir regularly collaborates with international organizations, using platforms like Skype to connect students globally. This approach not only broadens students’ perspectives but also brings global education standards to local classrooms. |
| Sharon is a Risk Manager with Samsung Electronics East Africa Limited responsible for risk identification and assessment, risk mitigation strategies, compliance and regulatory adherence, risk reporting and internal controls.
With over seven years of experience in finance and accounting spanning across PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Limited and the Non-Profit Organization (NGO) sector. She is known for maximizing the performance of companies and producing immediate results in boosting organizations’ revenue performance, financial statement audits, internal controls and exceptional interpersonal skills. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and is a member of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA). |
Michael is a dedicated and passionate education professional with over a decade of experience in teaching, leadership, and student mentorship. Currently, Michael is serving as the Principal at Wamba Mixed Day Secondary School. He specializes in English instruction, guidance and counseling, and the integration of ICT in education. Michael is committed to nurturing holistic learners, empowering teachers, and championing digital transformation in rural schools.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Education in English Languages and Literature degree from Maseno University.

| Chadwick Bironga is a Research Economist at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) with a strong focus on empowering rural underserved communities through initiatives that enhance access to economic opportunities, food and nutrition security, and social inclusion. A Board Director for the Asante Africa Foundation since 2021, he champions education and resources for vulnerable youth in East Africa. Bironga’s research delves into gender mainstreaming, youth empowerment, and the inclusion of people with disabilities and individuals living with HIV/AIDS in an inclusive economy. With over five first-author scientific papers published in peer-reviewed indexed journals, several co-authored publications, and two book chapters, he is a seasoned scholar.
He leads numerous community resilience-building projects in Kenya’s Coastal Region Counties and the Northern Frontier counties, focusing on sustainable livelihoods. Bironga also represents KMFRI in the Kenya National Syndemic Disease Control Council, serves on the KMFRI Ethical Research Review Committee, and has contributed to transformative programs like USAID Nawiri that is being implemented in Turkana, Marsabit, Samburu, Isiolo and West Pokot Counties. Bironga has a Master’s in Economics and a Bachelor’s in Economics and Statistics, with which he blends academic expertise and practical leadership to foster equity and sustainable development. |
